"Alone Once more (Naturally)" is a song by Irish vocaliser-songwriter Gilbert O'Sullivan. It was released in 1972 at the same time as – but non included on – his anthology Back to Front, and was a popular striking.

The single spent 6 not-sequent weeks at No. i on the United States Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, which ranked it as the No. 2 song for 1972. In Casey Kasem'due south American Top forty of the 1970s, "Alone Again (Naturally)" ranked as the 5th virtually-popular song of the decade (Debby Boone's "Y'all Light Up My Life" was No. one). "Alone Again (Naturally)" is a melancholy, introspective ballad. Copyright lawsuit [edit]

Grand Upright Music, Ltd v. Warner Bros. Records Inc. was a copyright case heard by the United States District Court for the Southern Commune of New York. The case pitted O'Sullivan against Biz Markie later on the rapper sampled O'Sullivan's vocal "Solitary Over again (Naturally)". The court ruled that sampling without permission can be copyright infringement. The judgment changed the hip hop music industry, requiring that music sampling be preapproved by the original copyright owners to avert a lawsuit.[25]

Maison Ikkoku [edit]

This vocal and O'Sullivan's "Become Down" were featured as the opening and ending for episode 24 of the popular Japanese anime Maison Ikkoku, based on the manga by Rumiko Takahashi. O'Sullivan was signed to production company Kitty Movie's associated record label, Kitty Records, which wanted to use the anime's popularity equally a way to promote the singer in Japan. According to series director Kazuo Yamazaki, the songs were dropped after only one episode considering they were unpopular with viewers. They were not included on the English language-language American release of the anime, replaced by the previously used Japanese theme songs.

The song was also used as the catastrophe theme for the 1986 live-action Maison Ikkoku film, Apartment Fantasy.
